When questioned by the court, John said he had no responsibilities, but that he cultivates for himself lands that people allow him to farm.

Good evening. Our top story tonight: a midnight ginger heist ends in a dramatic chase, a courtroom confession, and a Park Hill man slapped with fines and a stern warning.

Just after midnight on January 21st, Kenrick Barker received an urgent call—his farmland had been disturbed. Rushing to the scene, Barker discovered someone had harvested his ginger crop in the dead of night.

But the thief didn’t get far.

Along a nearby road, Barker confronted Everoy John, 43, who was spotted carrying a sack over his shoulder. As soon as their eyes met, John dropped the bag and took off running. Inside? Freshly dug ginger—Barker’s stolen harvest.

John was later arrested and appeared before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, where he pleaded guilty to receiving stolen goods worth EC$200.

Claiming he farmed on borrowed land and had no dependents, John begged the court for a fine instead of jail time.

Magistrate Kaywana Jacobs, noting his last conviction was back in 2016, agreed—but not without consequences.

John was fined EC$250, due by May 12, or face one month in prison. He was also bonded for nine months in the sum of EC$900. If he breaks that bond, he’ll pay immediately—or serve three more months behind bars.

Police Constable 973 led the investigation.

From stolen ginger to courtroom drama—justice has taken root once again in Park Hill.
